WooSox rally in eighth inning to beat Rochester 6-3, win fourth straight

The Worcester Red Sox notched their fourth straight win over the Rochester Red Wings Friday night at Polar Park with a 6-3 victory to move to 32-28 on the season.

Nick Sogard wasted no time getting his team on the scoreboard, launching a solo homer in the bottom of the first to give the WooSox an early spark. Ryan Noda followed suit, hitting two homers—one in the second and another in the fourth—to stretch Worcester’s lead to 3-0.

Then, Rochester (22-37) locked in. In the sixth, Andrés Chaparro ripped a line-drive homer to left field, bringing home J.T. Arruda and cutting the lead to one. The Red Wings struck again in the eighth, tying the game 3-3 when Chaparro’s lineout allowed Arruda to race home.

But Worcester wasn’t about to let the game slip away. The WooSox responded in the bottom of the eighth with a clutch three-run rally to reclaim control for good.

Reliever Austin Adams earned the win on the mound, improving to 1-2 after pitching two-thirds of an inning, bumping his ERA to 6.75.

The WooSox will look to extend their hot streak Saturday in Game 5 of the series, with first pitch set for 4:05 p.m. at Polar Park.
