WooSox erase four-run deficit to earn 7-4 win vs. RailRiders

The Worcester Red Sox ended their road trip on a high note when they erased a 4-0 deficit to beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The home team loaded the bases by way of a hit by pitch followed by consecutive walks.

The WooSox replaced José De León with Wyatt Mills, but the RailRiders immediately took advantage thanks to a T.J. Rumfield sacrifice fly and a three-run home run by Bryan De La Cruz.

Worcester didn’t go away quietly, though, and made it a one-run game in the sixth inning.

Jhostynxon Garcia’s two-RBI single made it 4-2 before Ryan Noda’s sacrifice fly cut Scranton’s lead to 4-3.

The WooSox jumped out to their first lead of the game in the seventh when Tyler McDonough hit a two-home run to give Worcester a 5-4 lead.

Garcia continued to see the ball well in Triple-A with a solo shot in the eighth to put the WooSox up 6-4. It was Garcia’s fourth home run in 11 games.

McDonough added even more insurance with an RBI-single in the eighth en route to the 7-4 win.

Worcester enjoys an off day Monday before returning to Polar Park for a six-game homestand beginning Tuesday night against the Rochester Red Wings.
