The Worcester Red Sox rallied from a four-run deficit to get back into the win column, pulling off a 9-6 victory over the Syracuse Mets on Wednesday.
The hosts took a small lead in the first inning and held it until the third when Jamie Westbrook connected on an RBI single to right field. Eddy Alvarez followed with another RBI single to give the visitors a slim lead.
But the Mets responded loudly in the bottom half of the frame. Luisangel Acuña drove a solo home run to center field to tie the game and kick off a five-run inning.
Vaughn Grissom trimmed the lead to three in the fourth with a line-drive to left for an RBI single. The Mets maintained this advantage until the sixth when Reese McGuire sparked a four-run rally with an RBI single to right.
Westbrook tacked on another run in the seventh with an RBI double to bring in Mickey Jasper. Jasper would come around to score again in the ninth off a wild pitch, his fourth run scored of the game. Westbrook finished with a game-high four hits on the day.
Justin Hagenman (3-4) picked up the win thanks largely to the efforts of Luis Guerrero and Yohan Ramírez, holding the Mets scoreless through the final four innings.
Worcester (51-59) will take on Syracuse in the third game of this six-game series on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 6:35 p.m.
