NORTON — Jeeno Thitikul, currently ranked as the world’s No. 1 women’s golfer, doesn’t see herself as deserving of the title.
“I don’t think I’m that good,” Thitikul said Wednesday at TPC Boston on the eve of the 2025 FM Championship.
Thitikul moved to the No. 1 spot on the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings earlier this month for the first time since 2022. The 22-year-old’s tie for 30th at the AIG Women’s British Open helped her pass Nelly Korda, who held the top spot since March 2024.
Despite her top ranking, Thitikul remains humble about her achievements.
“Just surprised by everything, surviving here on the LPGA,” Thitikul said when asked if she was surprised by her wins. “There are so many players that are talented. … I swear that when I was young I just thought about winning a tournament — just one tournament — on the LPGA would be enough for me.
“But to hear where I am now, I don’t know how I got it.”
Thitikul has seven top-5 finishes this season including wins at the Mizuho Americas Open and the 2025 PIF Saudi Ladies International.
She became the youngest player to win a professional event with a victory at the Ladies European Thailand Championship in 2017 when she was 14 years old.
Even though Thitikul believes she’s not deserving of the ranking, her position as the world’s top-ranked women’s golfer comes with expectations. She might not meet every single expectation in front of her. However, she can control three things that will help her mindset going into the first round of the FM Championship on Thursday.
“I can’t control anything except myself, my swing and my stroke,” Thitikul said.
