Woman struck by vehicle in road rage incident in Mass. identified

A 26-year-old woman who was hit by a car in Hopkinton during what prosecutors described as a road rage incident has died of her injuries, according to the Middlesex County district attorney’s office.

The woman was identified as Destini Decoff, according to a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office.

Decoff was fatally injured Thursday night on Route 85 in Hopkinton. Prosecutors say Ryan Sweatt, 36, was driving a Honda Civic on Route 85 in Hopkinton when he “became engaged in an apparent road rage incident with another vehicle.”

At some point, the occupants of the other vehicle exited the car, at which point, prosecutors say, Sweatt made a u-turn at a “high rate of speed” and hit Decoff in the street.

Decoff’s mother, in a post on Facebook, said her daughter was in a car with friends when the car behind them began riding their bumper. She accused Sweatt of trying to run the group over before making the u-turn and striking Decoff in the street.

Sweatt is charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, operating to endanger and a marked lanes violation. It was not immediately clear if he would face additional charges following Decoff’s death.

He was arraigned on those charges in Framingham District Court on Friday, where he appeared to be taken aback when prosecutors described the extent of Decoff’s injuries, according to WCVB-TV.

Sweatt told police and witnesses that a group of people surrounded his car, were threatening him, and one of them had a knife, according to the station.
