WMass Softball Tournament Roundup: East Longmeadow tops Agawam in semifinals

Class A Semifinal: No. 2 East Longmeadow (9), No. 3 Agawam (4)

East Longmeadow softball defeated Agawam 9-4 on Friday in the semifinals of the Western Massachusetts Class A tournament.

The Spartans scored all nine of their runs early on and never looked back as they slugged their way to victory.

The Spartans tallied one run in their half of the first inning, then added four more in both the second and third frames. East Longmeadow finished with 15 hits to improve its record to 14-4.

Emma Maurer (2-for-3) and Angelina Leone (1-for-1) played key roles in the Spartans’ victory, each recording a home run and three RBIs.

Meanwhile, Eve Butler and Mia Houser each notched three hits for East Longmeadow. Meanwhile, Reilly McCauley allowed nine hits, four runs (three earned), two walks, and struck out eight in the circle.

For the Brownies, Madelyn Pajer (two), Alexina Lentes (two), and Madison Georgina (two) recorded six of their team’s nine hits in a losing effort as Agawam moved to 11-9.

The Spartans will face the winner of Sunday’s semifinal match between No. 1 Westfield and No. 5 Longmeadow in the tournament’s final round, with a time and location to be announced.
