Class A Boys

No. 2 Central (51) vs. No. 7 Northampton (50)

Class B Boys

No. 2 Taconic (78) vs. No. 7 Sci-Tech (56)

On Tuesday, four players posted double-digit scoring efforts as the No. 2 Taconic boys basketball team defeated No. 7 Sci-Tech 78-56 in the Western Massachusetts Class B quarterfinals.

Jamal Sistrunk scored 24 points, including eight field goals, while Kyle McGrath was next with 15. Ceasar Santos (14) and Christian Mateurvich (12) recorded 26 combined points for their parts.

Jayson Salas posted a team-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, in a losing effort for Sci-Tech (3-15). Marcus Jones (11) and Mossyah Nembhard (10) reached double digits with 21 combined points.

Taconic entered halftime with a 39-25 lead. And it only grew from there, as the Thunder outscored the road team by eight points during the second half to come away victorious.

Taconic improved to 14-5 and will now face No. 3 Pittsfield in the sectional semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class C Boys

No. 1 Mahar (57) vs. No. 8 Lenox (42)

On Tuesday, the top-seeded Mahar boys basketball team defeated No. 8 Lenox 57-42 during the Western Massachusetts Class C quarterfinals.

Morgan Softic recorded a game-high 16 points to lead the Senators past the Millionaires for a third time this season. Lucas Isrow (14) and Jayden Delgado (12) were next with 26 combined points.

Chris Lyon posted a team-high 12 points as Lenox (4-15) suffered its 13th loss in 14 games. Max Shepardson (nine), Brendan Ward (six), and Luke Gamberoni (five) recorded 20 combined points.

Despite Mahar trailing by three after one quarter, the Senators outscored the road team 14-8 to enter halftime with a three-point lead.

Though the Millionaires limited their opponent to 13 third-quarter points, Mahar countered with 20 more during the final eight minutes to pull away for good.

Mahar improved to 14-5 and will now welcome No. 4 Athol in the sectional semifinals on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Class A Girls

No. 1 Central (51) vs. No. 8 Westfield (25)

Behind a game-high 14 points from Jai-Lyn Garvin-Martin, including four three-pointers, the No. 1 Central girls basketball team defeated No. 8 Westfield 51-25 during Tuesday’s Western Massachusetts Class A quarterfinals.

After taking an early seven-point lead through one quarter, the Golden Eagles extended their cushion to double digits entering halftime. Angela Hector helped that cause with 11 points, while Angalece Quinones was next with 10.

The second half didn’t tell a new story, though, as Central outscored the Bombers 25-14, and they pulled away for good.

Alexus Sanchez recorded a team-high 11 points for Westfield, as they moved to 6-13 on the season. For their parts, Ella Cloutier (six) and Alejandra Strange (five) were next with 11 combined points.

Central improved to 16-3 and will now face No. 5 Chicopee Comp in the sectional semifinals on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
