In a low-scoring, defensive effort by both Smith Academy and Pioneer Valley, the Falcons found themselves trailing by two points entering the fourth quarter.
While Smith Academy was struggling with a four-game losing streak, Anna Scagel put the team on her back in the second half to push the Falcons ahead.
After going scoreless in the first half, Scagel turned on the momentum after the break. With eight points in the fourth quarter out of the senior’s 14 total, Scagel awarded the Falcons the one-point edge as time expired.
In the end, Smith Academy won the Franklin South league matchup, 25-24, over the Panthers.
Scagel was the only Falcons player to tally double-digit points in Friday’s contest.
As for Pioneer Valley, they were led by Kyler McClelland’s 10-point performance.
The Panthers drop to 7-4 and next up, will face Franklin County Tech. at 7 p.m.
Smith Academy improves to 5-8 and look ahead to Monday’s 7 p.m. game against Pathfinder.
