WMass Boys Hockey Top 10: East Longmeadow, Ludlow aims to finish season on high note

This is the fourth installment of the 2023-24 Western Mass. Boys Hockey Top 10. The rankings will be updated on a weekly basis throughout the winter regular season.

Previous Rankings: Jan. 9, Jan. 25, Feb. 1

  1. Longmeadow (10-6, No. 1)
  2. West Springfield (8-7, No. 2)
  3. Minnechaug (8-8, No. 4)
  4. East Longmeadow (8-6-2, No. 8)
  5. Greenfield (10-6-1, No. 7)
  6. Ludlow (7-8-2, No. 10)
  7. Agawam (10-6, No. 9)
  8. Easthampton (11-5, No. 3)
  9. Amherst (11-5-1, No. 5)
  10. Westfield (8-10, No. 6)

The fourth rankings of the boy’s hockey season have arrived with only a few regular-season games left.

East Longmeadow is currently on a seven-game unbeaten streak following an earlier five-game losing streak. Three wins were against out-of-region teams like Westborough, Ellington, and Foxborough before defeating Taconic and West Springfield earlier this month.

The offense has been spread between Carson LePage (nine), Alek Narreau (nine), and Brayden Bousquet (seven) for 25 combined goals thus far. Owen Reid has split time in the net alongside Patrick McGillicuddy and has won two of his last five starts via shutout.

Ludlow has also turned things around.

Since its previous four-game winless streak, the Lions have defeated Easthampton and Amherst by five combined goals. As of Tuesday, Ludlow is outside of the top 33 teams in Division III to qualify for the state postseason tournament.

That said, Ludlow must split its remaining two regular-season games to move forward with a record of .500 or better. It won’t be easy, though, as the Lions are scheduled to face Chicopee and West Springfield.

There are numerous games to watch this week, as Amherst welcomes Easthampton to Orr Rink on Thursday at 8:15 p.m., while Agawam and West Springfield cap off the same night inside Olympia Ice Center at 8:30 p.m.

Westfield then welcomes Saint Paul Diocesan to Amelia Park on Saturday at 5:30 p.m., while Minnechaug and East Longmeadow cap off the evening by hosting the second round of its father-son battle inside Olympia Ice Center at 8 p.m.
