WMass Boys Basketball Tournament Roundup: Hoosac Valley, Mount Everett set up all-Berkshire County Class D final

Class A (Quarterfinals)

No. 1 Pope Francis (84), No. 8 Holyoke (35)

The Cardinals are into the WMass semifinals after a dominant victory over the Purple Knights on Friday in Springfield.

Senior guard Sam Brigham hit a season-high nine 3-pointers en route to a season-high 37-point performance in the win for Pope Francis (16-3), which will host No. 4 Longmeadow in the semifinals next week.

Pope Francis led 18-8 after one quarter and 42-16 at halftime.

Jackson Maurer and Sam Mayfield each scored 11 points in the win for the Cardinals, which have won three straight WMass titles.

Holyoke (6-12) received a team-high 15 points from Jordan King-Perilli.

The Eagles will play for the chance to win the program’s first-ever WMass title next week after a tight semifinal win over Libertas Academy on Friday in Sheffield.

Hoosac and Mount Everett will play an all-Berkshire title game on Wednesday at a time and location to be determined.

Trevor Leonard paced the Eagles with an 18-point performance, while Guthrie Davis scored 15 points and James Green scored 12 in a balanced effort.

The Lions had four players score in double figures, paced by Nycolei Nembhard‘s 19 points. Tyheem Goodman (16 points), Ron Jones (14) and Luis Campos (10) also had solid offensive outings.
