With deadline to pull papers imminent, Westfield’s election field comes into focus

WESTFIELD — On the final day for candidates to pick up nomination papers — the deadline is today at 5 p.m. — it appears that there will be contested races for mayor, at-large city councilor, Ward 2 councilor, three seats on the School Committee and Ward 6 on the Municipal Light Board.

All potential candidates must return papers with at least 50 signatures of voters by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, before officially becoming certified candidates. July 29 is also the last date to decide which office candidates want to run for if they pulled multiple papers. Per city charter, no person can return nomination papers for more than one elected position. The last day to object or withdraw papers is Aug. 14.
