Winner of $1 million Powerball prize bought ticket from this Stop & Shop in Mass.

The Massachusetts winner of a $1 million Powerball prize said he plans to use the money to replace an 18-year-old vehicle he owns, he told the Massachusetts State Lottery.

David Goncalves, of West Springfield, won $1 million during the drawing for $1.4 billion on Oct. 7, by matching the first five numbers on his Quic Pic ticket. Goncalves did not match the Powerball number, which would have earned him the jackpot prize.

The West Springfield man had bought his winning ticket in Springfield, from the Stop & Shop at 935 Riverdale St. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.

When he claimed his $1 million prize before taxes on Oct. 20, Goncalves told the lottery he wants to use some of the prize to replace a vehicle made in 2005 he owns.

Goncalves is one of the two $1 million winners from Massachusetts tickets from the Oct. 7 drawing for $1.4 billion. Jonathan Bulmer, of New Hampshire, claimed his winning $1 million Powerball ticket on Oct. 11, which he’d bought in Dracut from a gas station called A.L. Prime Energy.
