Snow and ice could cause difficult road conditions Tuesday as some people are traveling for the holidays.
Those traveling in the Berkshires on Tuesday will be the most affected.
The Berkshires are expected to get the most amount of snow with 2 to 5 inches and a glaze of ice from freezing drizzle.
“The combination of gusty winds and falling snow will likely reduce visibility and lead to difficult travel,” the National Weather Service warned. “Slow down and use caution while traveling.”
Snow could continue into Wednesday but is expected to end Wednesday morning.
Other parts of the state, like Amherst, Worcester and Lowell are expected to get 1 to 2 inches Tuesday.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is also advising travelers that inclement weather may impact travel conditions Tuesday afternoon. MassDOT crews will be pretreating roadways as needed in advance of snow accumulation or freezing rain.
“MassDOT will have crews ready across the state to respond as needed,” Undersecretary and Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver said in a press release. “Since both commuter and holiday travelers will be on the road when the weather is expected to hit the state’s roadways, we’re asking the public to both allow extra time and be extra patient as some drivers may be unfamiliar with the area they are traveling.”
As of Tuesday morning, flights in Massachusetts have not been affected by the snow.
Overall, there have been more than 700 flights in the U.S. that have been delayed and 250 that have been canceled Tuesday. On Monday, there had been more than 5,000 flights delayed in the U.S. and more than 700 canceled.
Of those, about 20 flights in and out of Boston have been delayed as of 7 a.m. Tuesday, which were mostly JetBlue flights. There have also been four cancellations.
There have not been any cancellations or delays out of Bradley International Airport in Hartford.
And there has been one delay out of Albany, which was a Southwest flight.
