The sunshine poking through the clouds Saturday morning was a welcome sight for Massachusetts residents after multiple days of cold rain to close the week.
While many may have hoped for a preview of summer weather over Memorial Day Weekend, forecasts showed cooler temperatures and some lingering rain on Saturday before drier and steadily warmer conditions arrive Sunday and Monday.
Some spotty rain showers are possible Saturday morning and will likely develop into a period of scattered showers by the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Yet most rain showers will be brief and “hit or miss,” the weather agency said in a Saturday morning forecast. Its forecasters are “definitely not expecting a washout.”
Temperatures on Saturday will remain cool and below normal for late-May, with highs in the upper 50s or low 60s.
Sunday into Monday
Sunday is expected to remain mostly cloudy, but drier than Saturday, according to the weather service. A limited shower is possible.
Daytime high temperatures could rise to the mid-60s, accompanied by wind gusts around 20 miles per hour.
Boston, Worcester and Springfield are all expected to reach the mid-60s on Sunday. Cape Cod could be slightly cooler, in the low 60s.
Forecasters expect more sunshine Monday, with temperatures closer to normal for this time of year: low 70s in Boston, Worcester and Springfield, and mid 60s on Cape Cod.
Warmer weather arrives Tuesday, with temperatures pushing into the 70s, the weather service said. The next chance of rain will be late in the week, but it is not expected to bring significant showers. The forecast will clarify as the week progresses.
