With No. 1 Catholic Memorial squaring off against No. 5 Xaverian on Friday night, there were a lot of eyes on the Top 5 matchup.
That included Drake Maye’s.
Clad in a grey hoodie, the Patriots quarterback made the drive over to Westwood to watch the game after New England’s practice on Friday. When spotted, Maye took photographs with fans that soon spread across social media.
Following a 31-13 win over the Titans in Tennessee, Maye explained why he’d decided to catch the high school showdown.
“I heard it was a big game in a local area,” Maye said. “I think two State Champions playing. Just trying to support (them). It brings me back to those days when I was playing. It was pretty cool to see them out there and I guess there was a bunch of Patriots fans because it was a pretty good crowd. So, it was a good game.”
It came down to the wire, with Xaverian hitting a game-winning field goal as time expired to cap a 25-22 comeback over Catholic Memorial.
“Each game has its own story, and that was a great story,” Xaverian coach Al Fornaro said, via MassLive’s Gage Nutter. “It’s a story these guys are going to remember for a long time.”
The quarterback of the New England Patriots being in the crowd will only add to that memory.
