Why Bruins thought loss to Carolina was good preparation for playoffs

BOSTON — Both the Bruins and Hurricanes would each have to win two playoff series to face each other again this season.

But seeing how Carolina adjusted to win 4-1 on Tuesday after Boston beat them on Thursday in Raleigh, figures to be good preparation for what’s to come in the weeks ahead.

“To put it into context, we just played this team four days ago. That’s playoff hockey. We beat them and then we lost to them,” Charlie McAvoy said. “That’s how a seven-game series works. If there’s anything to learn about this or use in context it’s that this is playoff hockey. It was the same thing with Florida except that was a week. We’re going to see teams again. It’s whose going to adapt and be able to elevate from the beginning of a series to the end of a series.”

Jeremy Swayman was more blunt.

“It’s our job to get punched in the face and get back up,” he said. “That’s what we did tonight.”

Overall McAvoy thought the Bruins were in a good place heading into the playoffs.

“I feel good. It’s just one game tonight. It’s hard to win in this league. It is a grind. I think we’ve displayed how we can play. Tonight we just didn’t do enough of it. But we’ve been working towards our game. Tonight they played better than us and well enough to win. But overall we’ve been building.”
