Why Bruins goalie thinks he needs to do more pushups

TORONTO — After his second win and second strong effort of the postseason, Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman had something very specific he wants to work on.

“I need to do some more pushups,” Swayman said after the Bruins’ 4-2 win in Game 3 gave them a 2-1 lead over the Maple Leafs in their best-of-seven series.

The extra calisthenics weren’t to make more saves.

During a TV timeout, Swayman was skating to the bench, when Max Domi tried to rattle him. The Leafs forward bumped him shoulder to shoulder. Like an experienced wrestler, Swayman sold the fall, flopping to the ice, perhaps hoping to earn a call.

No such luck. Swayman brushed it off after the game.

“He was just skating, I was skating,” he said.

Swayman was equally diplomatic when asked how he felt about the goalie rotation.

“Anytime I get a chance to play I’m going to do everything I can to help this team win whether it’s back to back or every other game,” he said.

Swayman has made no secret of his desire to play as much as possible, his affection for Linus Ullmark and his willingness to be a workhorse or part of a rotation. He was asked whether the rest created by the rotation had helped.

“I don’t want rest. I want to keep playing,” he said. “Whenever I get the call to play again I want to make sure my body is ready and I’m ready to perform at my best.”
