Sam Houston opened the season with a 95-59 win over LeTourneau that saw more Bearkats off the bench eclipse the 10-point mark (three) than starters (two). Jacobe Coleman led the team with 17 from the bench with Jacob Walker (13) and Isaiah Manning (11) joining him. Damon Nicholas Jr. had 12 to lead the starters and Po-Boigh King had 11.
Texas Tech knocked off Lindenwood 98-60 to get its season started. Christian Anderson led all scorers with 34 points and also led the game with 11 assists and four steals. Donovan Atwell added 22 and Nolan Graves had 16 rebound, six of which he got on offense, and both also had two steals.
