Arguably the biggest game on the schedule for Week 5, Saturday, Sept. 27 features a top 10 matchup that is also a rematch of last season’s Big Ten title game as the No. 6 Oregon Ducks visit the No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pa.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on NBC. Fans looking to watch this college football game can do so for free by using DirecTV, which offers a free trial. The Ducks have not lost a Big Ten game since joining the conference last season, but their one loss over the last two seasons was to Ohio State. Still, Oregon has shown it belongs in the Big Ten and a win on Saturday could go a long way toward the program’s quest to win a second conference title in its second season. Last season, the Ducks took down Penn State 45-37 in the conference championship game.
This season Oregon is being led by quarterback Dante Moore, who already has 962 passing yards and 11 passing touchdowns to just one interception, for the 4-0 Ducks. Last week they ran through their rival, Oregon State, 41-7, with Moore tossing for 305 yards and four scores.
The 3-0 Nittany Lions don’t have quite as many eye-popping statistics, but the experience of quarterback Drew Allar and the running back tandem of Kaytron Allen and Nicholas Singleton inspires hope in Happy Valley and makes Penn State one of the top contenders for the national championship, especially after reaching the semifinals last season.
However, despite the strong showing in the College Football Playoff, many still question if Penn State and coach James Franklin can win the “big games” and Saturday’s White Out will be a chance to prove the doubters wrong and give some validity to the national championship contender hype. In 12 seasons at Penn State, Franklin is 104-42 entering Saturday, but only 15-28 against ranked opponents and 4-20 against teams in the top 10. The team has won one game against a top 10 team in two of the last three seasons, defeating No. 8 Boise State in the CFP last season and winning the Rose Bowl over No. 7 Utah in January 2023.
