A potential first round playoff matchup takes place on Friday, Aug. 22 when the Minnesota Lynx take on the Indiana Fever at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on ION. Napheesa Collier is questionable to play after missing the last six games. The Lynx won the first four games with their MVP candidate sidelined, but they have just lost consecutive games to the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream. At 28-7, Minnesota still has the league’s best record, and it is now trying to stop its first losing streak of the season.
The Fever are 19-16 and sixth in the standings, only 1.5 games up on the Seattle Storm in eighth, and two games behind the Phoenix Mercury in fifth. The Golden State Valkyries are also only one game back of Indiana, who have been dealing with major backcourt injuries all season. With Sydney Colson, Aari McDonald and Sophie Cunningham all done for the season and Caitlin Clark’s return still a major question mark, Kelsey Mitchell has had to step up even more to keep the team in playoff position.
This is the first regular season meeting between these squads, but they also played in the Commissioner’s Cup championship at Target Center in Minneapolis. The Fever won that matchup back on July 1, without Clark, 74-59. Natasha Howard led the game in scoring and rebounds with 16 points and 12 boards, while Aliyah Boston had a 12-1 double-double of her own, while also dishing out a game-high six assists. The duo also combined for four steals while holding the Lynx to their lowest point total all season.
