A couple of teams fighting for playoff positioning meet up on Friday, Aug. 22 for their fourth and final regular season meeting when the Golden State Valkyries take on the Phoenix Mercury at PHX Arena in Phoenix.
The game is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. EDT and will be broadcast on ION. Fans looking to watch this WNBA game can do so for free by using DIRECTV, which offers a free trial, or FuboTV, which also offers a free trial and up to $30 off your first month. SlingTV doesn’t offer a free trial but has promotional offers available.
The Mercury are on the second half of a back-to-back that started on Thursday in Las Vegas where they lost to the Aces, which dropped Phoenix to fifth in the standings. Sitting at 21-14, the Mercury have a two-game cushion on the sixth-place Indiana Fever, and they are only half a game behind the New York Liberty for fourth and home court advantage in the first round of the postseason.
The Valkyries are 18-17, seventh in the standings, one game away from sixth and also only one game up on the Los Angeles Sparks in ninth. The Seattle Storm entered the day half a game back of Golden State.
The first three matchups between the Mercury and Valkyries went Phoenix’s way, including a meeting on Tuesday at the Chase Center in San Francisco. That contest saw Kahleah Copper post a game-high 25 points while Golden State’s Veronica Burton dropped 24 in a losing effort.
