A couple of teams at the top of the Big 12 face off on Saturday, Nov. 22 in a game that could decide who reaches the conference championship as the Cincinnati Bearcats host the No. 11 BYU Cougars at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati.
The game is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. EST and will be broadcast on FOX. BYU is right behind No. 5 Texas Tech for the top spot in the conference. The Cougars are 6-1 in Big 12 play and 9-1 overall, just one less win than Texas Tech both in conference and overall. Last week BYU bounced back from a 29-7 loss to the Red Raiders by taking down TCU, 44-13. Quarterback Bear Bachmeier had 296 passing yards, 59 rushing yards and a pair of scores, one through the air and one on the ground. Running back LJ Martin had 88 yards and a score while wide receiver Parker Kingston and tight end Carsen Ryan combined for 159 receiving yards and a score on nine catches.
Cincinnati is coming off back-to-back losses, the most recent of which was proceeded by a bye and came by a score of 30-24 to Arizona. Cincinnati is 7-3 overall and 5-2 in conference, the same Big 12 record as No. 12 Utah, who handed the Bearcats a 45-14 loss to start this month. Both teams are one game behind BYU and hoping to steal a spot in the conference championship. Last week, Cincinnati’s Brendan Sorsby had 184 total yards, a passing score and a rushing score, but also two interceptions. The first pick was the first play of the game and set up a touchdown, and the second came late in the first half and set up a field goal. Running back Tawee Walker rushed for 119 yards and Zion Johnson added another 42 yards on the ground and a score. Jeff Caldwell caught the touchdown pass and finished with five grabs for 68 yards.
