Where is Lawyer Milloy, hard-hitting champ who Patriots shockingly cut?

They don’t make many safeties like Lawyer Milloy anymore. The former New England Patriots captain was legendary as one of the league’s hardest hitters — and for being a Super Bowl champ. He’s also remembered for being one of the most shocking roster cuts in franchise history. Let’s check in with what he’s doing these days:

Where are former Patriots now? Safety Lawyer Milloy (1996-2002)

While he was born in St. Louis and won a Super Bowl in New England, Milloy has strong ties to Washington state. He currently lives in Woodinville, Washington, about an hour north of Tacoma, where he grew up.

With that said, Milloy may be on the move. Last month, the former NFL star listed his home for sale for a whopping $7.8 million price tag. The mansion sits on 10.5 gated acres and includes a theater, game room with a full bar, aquarium wall, gym, sauna, spa, pool and a six-car garage. You can check out the listing here.

Both Lawyer and his wife, Claudine, were star athletes at the University of Washington. That athletic pedigree has carried on through Milloy’s daughters. Nowadays, Milloy is a big-time softball dad. Not only does he regularly celebrate his daughters’ achievements on social media, he’s spent nine seasons as an assistant softball coach for their high school team.

Three of Milloy’s daughters have gone on to play softball in college. The eldest, Amirah, played 181 games at Washington. The second-oldest, Kiki, is Tennessee’s all-time leader in home runs. The second-youngest, Tia, is in his first season at Oklahoma.

Speaking of college, Milloy went back to school himself. Milloy was 50 credits shy of graduating from Washington when he declared for the NFL Draft in 1995. In 2022, he returned to school and enrolled in the integrated social sciences program. In 2024, he graduated, fulfilling a promise he made to his mother.

After graduating, Milloy told the Seattle Times that he was considering getting into NFL scouting so he could be around the game again.

A second-round pick in 1996, Milloy made an immediate impact in New England, earning a starting role on the team that made it to Super Bowl XXXI. When the Patriots won their first championship in 2001, Milloy was a team captain with multiple Pro Bowl appearances on his resume.

Through the 2002 season, Milloy was a four-time Pro Bowler and one-time first-team All-Pro selection. That’s why it was a complete shock when Bill Belichick and the Patriots opted to cut Milloy just days before the start of the 2003 season.

Milloy was 29 years old at the time and still in the prime of his career. The Patriots had reportedly been trying to re-work Milloy’s contract and opted to cut the prized safety for salary cap reasons.

Milloy signed with the Buffalo Bills, who happened to play the Patriots days later in Week 1. The game was a blowout, with Buffalo winning, 31-0.

In the years following, Milloy’s relationship with New England would be complicated. He’s spoken positively about those he spent time with in Foxborough. However, he also maintained that he was “disgusted” by the way things ended with Belichick.

Milloy went on to play three seasons with the Bills, followed by three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons and two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks.

In the years following his release, Milloy’s relationship with New England has been complicated. However, the team has appeared to mend bridges with him in recent years.

In 2016, he was back in Foxborough to be honored as part of the 2001 Super Bowl champs. In 2022, he said that he’s found closure with the way things ended.
