Freezing rain left a sheet of ice on many roads in Massachusetts Wednesday morning and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is warning residents about the slippery conditions.
Almost all roads in Massachusetts are considered “wet” and MassDOT crews are treating the areas as of 7 a.m. Wednesday. However, some roads are worse than others.
MassDOT’s 511 traffic map shows ice on the Massachusetts Turnpike between US 20 (Blandford) and exit 54 near Ludlow. Ice is possible again between Route-31 (Charlton) and U.S. 20 (Auburn).
“Possible ice on the roadway. MassDOT operators are spreading materials on roads in the area,” MassDOT’s website states.
Other roads with ice include Route-146, U.S. 20, I-290 and I-495.
Roads near Boston and the Berkshires are considered to have slushy conditions.
MassDOT also provides live video of road conditions. Many roads appear clear and traffic is moving, but MassDOT is warning that icy conditions may still be present.
