When will Masataka Yoshida return to Red Sox? Alex Cora gives ‘most likely’ date

BOSTON — Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida is likely to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

The 31-year-old outfielder, who is returning from an offseason right shoulder labral repair, is working out here at Fenway Park on Monday.

He played five straight games on a rehab assignment Wednesday-Sunday. He played the first two games at Triple-A Worcester and the next three games at Double-A Portland.

He went 4-for-14 (.286) with a .353 on-base percentage, four singles, three RBIs, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

He started two games in left field and logged 12 innings there. His other three games came at DH.

“He’ll be activated this week,” manager Alex Cora said. “Another day of working out. Probably another one tomorrow and most likely Wednesday.”

Other injury updates

~ Starter Tanner Houck (right flexor pronator strain) is throwing a bullpen session Monday. He’ll make another rehab start later this week. He would be on regular rest Wednesday.

Houck tossed 5 scoreless innings in his fourth rehab start for Portland on Friday. He allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out four.

~ Starter Hunter Dobbins (right elbow strain) dominated in his first rehab start for Portland on Saturday. He went 5 innings, allowing one run, two hits and no walks while striking out eight.

He will throw a bullpen Tuesday. He might not need another rehab start.

“We’ll decide what we’re going to do with him later on this week,” Cora said.

~ Cora also gave updates on Liam Hendriks (right hip inflammation) and Justin Slaten (right shoulder inflammation). “Hendriks is playing catch. Slaten doing plyos in the weight room. Feeling better but not progressing on the mound yet.”
