When is the next Wachusett Dam Day?

Dam Day in Clinton is coming soon, which means the top of the Wachusett Dam will be open to the public once again.

On Sunday, Oct. 12, guests will have access to the walkway that spans Wachusett Dam from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., overlooking the Wachusett Reservoir.

The walkway was originally closed in the 1990s due to water supply security and safety concerns, but it has since been reopened on specific dates in recent years, according to the Department of Conservation and Recreation.

The last Wachusett Dam Day was on May 10.

DCR Watershed Rangers will be on site to answer any questions and provide information on the dam’s role in protecting the metropolitan Boston Water supply, according to the DCR.

The Wachusett Reservoir holds 65 billion gallons of water, supplying 2.7 million people with their water, according to the DCR.

There will be limited parking on Route 70, but there will also be parking available at nearby Clinton Middle School and Clinton High School.

There will also be limited reserved parking for people with disabilities at the promenade. Accommodations can be made by calling 978-365-3800.

Backpacks, briefcases and other large bags will not be allowed on the dam due to security concerns.

No dogs are permitted on the property and there are no bathrooms accessible to the public.
