What’s open and closed on Thanksgiving Day in Massachusetts

Whether it’s days ahead or the day of, plenty of people still plan to go out on Thanksgiving.

However, if they plan on any last-minute grocery shopping or need to send off a package in the mail, they might run into a snag if their destination is closed. Most retail stores and offices are closed on Thanksgiving to let employees spend time with their families during the holiday.

Still, some retail locations and transportation services will be open to the public, though hours may vary. Here’s what you can expect to be open and closed on Thanksgiving.

Pioneer Valley Transit Authority: PVTA will have no services running on Thanksgiving.

UMass Transit: UMass Transit has no services running on Thanksgiving.

Worcester Regional Transit Authority: There will be no fixed-route bus or paratransit service on Thanksgiving.

MBTA:

  • All subways, buses and The Ride will operate on a Sunday schedule.
  • The Commuter Rail will operate on a weekend schedule.
  • There will be no ferry service on Thanksgiving.
