‘What riot?’ UMass Amherst protesters face judge, maintain encampment was peaceful

BELCHERTOWN — When Dodi Melnicoff, 67, was booked by police last week, she was told she was being charged with trespassing and failing to disperse a riot.

“What riot?” she asked in a court parking lot, after her arraignment Tuesday morning. “These are college students letting you know that it’s time for us to do what needs to be done: divest from mass murder.”
