WG&E offers heat pump rebates up to $6,000 for conversion from fossil fuels

WESTFIELD — Westfield Gas & Electric is offering an up to $6,000 rebate to customers for installing an air source heat pump in their homes.

Specifically, it will be reimbursing at a rate of $1,500 per ton, Key Accounts and Sales Manager Andrew Short said at an April 24 seminar. For a 2½-ton unit, that equals $3,750. A 3-ton unit, which is what’s needed for a whole home system, would net a $4,500 rebate, Short said.

The municipal utility is also offering an additional $500 rebate for those converting their heating and cooling systems from oil or propane. Those using natural gas will still qualify for the $1,500-per-ton rebate, but not the extra $500.
