Thanksgiving is literally a day for giving thanks, although taking time every day to give thanks is good for the soul. Another day designated for giving thanks is the Monday before Thanksgiving. It is officially “Public Health Thank You Day.” This designation was made by Research!America and other leading public health organizations.
Research!America is a non-profit medical and health research advocacy alliance. They advocate for “science, discovery and innovation to achieve better health for all.” For more information, visit researchamerica.org. The American Public Health Association website at apha.org also addresses this day and a wealth of information about the importance of public health.
Public health gives us the opportunity to live safer, healthier and longer lives. Research!America states, “From the ordinary to the extraordinary, these heroes keep our drinking water clean, our communities healthy and our children safe from harm” using “evidence-based, innovative and equitable solutions.”
