WESTFIELD – Westfield pitcher Anthony Roberts struck out 11 batters, two walks, and one run while tossing a complete game no-hitter Monday, May 26 against Chicopee Comp, a 9-1 victory at Bullens Field.
That was not all though for the Bombers hurler though as Roberts homered in the team’s six-run sixth inning.
“Roberts had great command of the strike zone,” Westfield baseball coach Mike Kennedy explained. “[He had a] good feel for all of his pitches [and] knew when and how to work each batter. He kept pounding the strike zone.”
Kennedy also said Westfield catcher Isaiah Gomez was instrumental in Roberts’ no-no.
“Isaiah called a great game,” Kennedy said.
In the sixth inning, Roberts launched his solo shot; Robert Ninotti hit a two-run single; Gomez drew a walk, scoring one run; and John Cigal grounded out, scoring two more.
Gomez finished the game with two RBIs. Ninotti went 3-for-4 and stole multiple bases. Patrick Moore also stole multiple bases for Westfield as the Bombers totaled five stolen bags.
