WESTFIELD — In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, Westfield on Weekends will open an exhibit showcasing two artists whose works reflect the colors and cultures of Latin American.
Titled “Fiesta! Artworks of Andrea Fabiana Piatti-Bruno and Frankie Borrero,” the exhibit will open on Saturday with an artist reception at the WOW Center at 105 Elm St. The exhibit will run through Oct. 31.
Part of the WOW’s Journey Stories series aimed at bringing inspiring stories to light, the “Fiesta!” exhibit showcases a pair of artists who faced and overcame challenges and hardships.
“We are thrilled to spotlight these artists, who are prime examples of resilience and creativity and who give back so much to their communities in beautiful ways,” Kathi Bradford, director of the WOW Center said in the organization’s announcement.
Piatti-Bruno, a native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and resident of Westfield for sixteen years, owns Blended Vintage Marketplace at 48 Elm St. There, she has displayed her work and that of other artists in the area for nearly eight years.
Now a business owner and mother of six, Piatti-Brunodid not speak English when she first immigrated to the United States with her family and endured prejudice and bullying, according to Westfield on Weekends.
Borrero is a self-taught artist born in New York City and raised in Massachusetts who, following a traumatic brain injury in 2015, has become a prolific artist in spite of color-blindness. His public art projects include works that can be found in Holyoke, Springfield and Westfield and he has also produced commissioned pieces throughout the continental United States and Puerto Rico.
The WOW gallery is open Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 3 p.m., Thursday and Friday evenings from 6-9 p.m., and Saturdays from 1-5 p.m. Other hours may be added, pending the availability of volunteer docents. Group tours are also available by appointment.
