Westfield native on ‘The Voice’ advances to next round of competition

A Westfield native on this season of “The Voice” will be advancing on to the next round of the competition.

Madison Curbelo, who had a four-chair turn audition, competed for a spot in the battle rounds against team member Kyle Schuesler. The two performed “Lucky” by Jason Mraz, both playing guitar and incorporating Spanish to the song.

Curbelo originally auditioned for the show with the song “Stand By Me,” adding Spanish to her audition version.

Their battle round performance had coaches standing for applause, giving praise to each of them.

“Both of you guys could win the entire competition,” Chance the Rapper told the duo.

Ultimately, coaches Dan + Shay chose Schuesler as the winner of the battle. Coaches will only select one member in a round to advance to the knockouts.

Each of the four coaches has one steal, which will allow a contestant not on their team to join them and one playoff pass, which sends an artist straight to the playoff rounds.

In a twist ending of Curbelo’s and Schuesler’s battle, coach John Legend used his steal on Curbelo, keeping her in the competition and allowing her to advance to the knockout rounds on his team.

The knockouts will kick off on April 8, which shows artists selecting their own song to perform individually, while their direct competitor watches.

“The Voice” will air every Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. Eastern on NBC. For those without cable, it can also be streamed on platforms like Peacock and FuboTV. Both platforms offer a free trial for those interested in signing up for a membership.
