Healthier men make healthier families which in turn make healthier and stronger communities. Although fitness is important, the health and strength of men is not found lifting heavy weights but in cultivating boys’ and men’s emotional intelligence and fortitude. A strong arm and hand raised shouldn’t ever cause someone to flinch but should be a symbol of help and encouragement or a high five.
Men’s Health Month is recognized in June every year since passed through Congress and signed into law by President Bill Clinton on May 31,1994. Its focus supports awareness, prevention, education and family engagement for the health and well-being of men and boys. It has been facilitated by the Men’s Health Network.
This year’s theme is “Bring Empathy Back: Men Fight Battles We Can’t Always See.” The goal is to close the Empathy Gap through advocacy, awareness and action. The Empathy Gap refers to the decreased funding and support for men’s issues in physical and mental health.
