Westfield Health Bulletin: mental health and the holidays can go hand in hand

“Silent night…all is calm, all is bright…Children laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile…It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” And so the music goes. But not for everyone. For many, the holidays can be the most difficult time of the year.

Expectations, family tensions, financial constraints, too much to do and not enough time, disruption of one’s usual schedule, no alone time, excessive rich food and drink, travel, having to work when your family is gathered without you and more, all equal stress.

Multiple stressful triggers can lead to mental health problems. Thus it is important to take time for yourself, not only to enjoy the holidays but for your emotional well being.
