WESTFIELD – Westfield opened the Babe Ruth Baseball 16-Year-Olds New England Regionals with a solid effort but fell just short in nine innings Friday night, falling to Greater Lynn (Mass.), 4-2, in at Bullens Field.
Fueled by a Cam Witczak walk and singles from Jacob Barnes and Anthony Roberts, Westfield jumped out to a two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Whip City’s Ruthers would not score another run in the nine-inning game though, stranding five runners, including two in the ninth after Jack Madsen and Antonio Simpson reached base with hits to the outfield.
