A South Hadley man is recovering in a Wyoming hospital after he was mauled by a grizzly bear while hiking in Grand Teton National Park Sunday, and he credits a can of bear spray for keeping him alive.
According to park rangers, the 35-year-old hiker, later identified by the Jackson Hole News & Guide newspaper as Shayne Patrick Burke was hiking on Signal Mountain within the park when he apparently stumbled upon a large female grizzly bear and her cub. According to his Facebook page, Burke lives in South Hadley.
