With the first MIAA boys lacrosse power rankings released Tuesday and the second round set for Friday, the playoff picture is starting to take shape—and the intensity on the field is heating up fast.
At the top, No. 1 Longmeadow clashed with the best of Division II, Billerica Memorial, in an intense matchup on Monday. The Lancers looked poised for a statement win, storming into halftime with a 7-4 lead. But Billerica punched back with a second-half rally—scoring seven goals, including a fourth-quarter shutout of Longmeadow—to escape with an 11-10 victory.
But the Lancers bounced back with authority, overwhelming Pinkerton Academy (NH) 16-8 behind a breakout performance from sophomore Colin Mulderig, who exploded for a career-high nine points (3 goals, 6 assists), emerging as one of the region’s rising stars.
No. 2 Minnechaug continues to dominate, holding firm in the rankings with an unblemished record. The Falcons notched their 11th straight win Thursday, defeating Westfield 14-6.
Their senior trio—Matt Beaudin, Tommy O’Toole, and Matt Noonan—continues to terrorize defenses. Beaudin led the charge with a career-high six points (3 goals, 3 assists).
Meanwhile, Agawam is on the rise, climbing to No. 3 after beating West Springfield.
The Brownies are riding a five-game winning streak, highlighted by a convincing 15-5 win over West Springfield that snapped the Terriers’ six-game run. In that game, Agawam showcased its versatility with eight different goal scorers.
Sophomore standout Justin Lareau has been at the forefront of the team’s success—scoring four goals against West Springfield and racking up a career-high eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) against South Hadley on Apr. 21.
At the lower end of the rankings, Hoosac Valley edged up to No. 9 above South Hadley. The Tigers have dropped three straight—falling to Agawam, Pope Francis, and Wahconah—while the Hurricanes have kept steady, bouncing back from a lone loss to Northampton with back-to-back wins over Pittsfield and McCann Tech.
