During a special episode of “American Idol” that was dedicated to “iconic ‘Idol’ moments,” Season 3 winner Fantasia logged another entry in the show’s most stirring performances.
The “Idol” champion, actress, and multi-platinum singer returned to the “Idol” stage during Monday night’s episode to perform her new single “Have Your Way,” a soaring gospel tune that Fantasia delivered with exuberance. The song will appear on the multi-hyphenate’s forthcoming album.
“The world is going through a lot right now, and we need more God, so I allowed him to use me on the biggest stage ever,” Fantasia told host Ryan Seacrest.
Fantasia also appeared as a guest mentor throughout the episode, offering the Top 12 contestants guidance when rehearsing for the next round of the competition. Before the episode, the “American Idol” Instagram account shared an interview with Fantasia about her approach to mentoring and helping “Idol” contenders manage the pressure of the competition.
“If they’ve gotten caught up in all of the stuff, [I] pull them back to remind them of, ‘why did you start singing? What made you fall in love with it? Let’s go back there,’” she noted. “Because when you go back there, you kind of blind your eyes and ears to everything else that’s going on, and you can say ‘okay, boom, this is why I did it.’”
Fantasia also cited social media as the biggest difference between her time on the show in 2004 and today.
“You get to go and really see what people have to say about you,” she said.
