Warm-up on the horizon, but cool, rainy day ahead for Massachusetts

A coastal low approaching Massachusetts will bring cooler-than-normal temperatures and some light rainfall on Wednesday ahead of a dry and seasonably warm weekend.

Temperatures are expected to top out only in the 60s, with wind gusts of 20 to 25 mph possible, particularly over Cape Cod and the Islands.

“It will be a bit raw today,” National Weather Service forecasters wrote.

Moisture should pierce through the dry air to bring rain in some parts of Massachusetts on Wednesday, with areas along the immediate south coast and the coastal plain expected to see some showers throughout the day.

Areas along the coast should see about a tenth of an inch of rain, while Cape Cod and the Islands could see closer to a quarter of an inch.

The coastal low will exit the area by Thursday, allowing temperatures to warm up considerably, with highs expected to reach the upper 70s.

Temperatures will dip slightly on Friday, with normal to slightly below-normal temperatures — highs should range from the low to mid-70s — expected through the beginning of next week.

Rain could return as early as Sunday, but the exact timing of the precipitation remains unclear. It’s possible the rain arrives Monday into Tuesday, rather than over the weekend, forecasters wrote.
