Volunteer-led garden in Westfield prepares to celebrate 90 years of growing

WESTFIELD — Nearly a century ago, Albert Steiger gave the city Chauncey Allen Park, located on Smith Avenue, and four years later, in 1934, Grandmothers’ Garden was built there as a tribute to “Grandmother Steiger.”

Today, Grandmothers’ Garden is a flourishing part of the city cared for by a group of volunteers dedicated to keeping its beauty alive.
