Vikings sign another former Patriots draft bust

FOXBOROUGH — The 2019 NFL Draft was one of New England’s worst in the Bill Belichick era, but the Vikings are trying to give a couple Top 50 Patriots picks another chance.

After inking Joejuan Williams (No. 45 overall) to a free agent deal in April, Minnesota signed N’Keal Harry (No. 32 overall) on Sunday afternoon. In three seasons with the Patriots, Harry struggled mightily to make an impact, catching just 57 passes for 598 yards.

The wide receiver requested a trade in 2021, and a year later, that became a reality, as New England dealt him to Chicago for a seventh-round pick last summer. Harry didn’t do much for the Bears either, catching seven passes for 116 yards.

Any first-round pick that doesn’t pan out is going to be put under a microscope, but Harry drew even more scrutiny because of the receivers selected after him. Deebo Samuel, A.J. Brown, and D.K. Metcalf were all taken in the second round, while Diontae Johnson and Terry McLaurin went in the third.

New England’s next pick 2019 was third-rounder Chase Winovich — who is now playing for the Texans — and the rest of the class was: Damien Harris, Yodny Cajuste, Hjalte Froholdt, Jarrett Stidham, Byron Cowart, Jake Bailey, and Ken Webster, none of whom call New England home any longer.
