Video: Wash. deputies use PIT maneuvers, K-9 to capture suspect after pursuit

THURSTON COUNTY, Wash. — The Thurston County Sheriff’s Officer has released dash cam footage of a pursuit involving multiple PIT maneuvers and a K-9 deployment, KIRO reported.

Olympia police initiated the Feb. 14 pursuit when the suspect fled a traffic stop, according to the report. Deputies from the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit as the vehicle entered Tumwater.

Deputies used a PIT maneuver, causing the truck to spin before coming to a stop in the snow, video shows. As the pursuit continued, a second PIT maneuver pinned the vehicle against a tree.

Officers attempted to get the driver to surrender for nearly an hour before using foam bullets to break a window and deploying a K-9 into the vehicle, according to the report. Deputies said the driver assaulted the K-9 before being taken into custody.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of DUI, two counts of eluding, two counts of assault on law enforcement officers and harming a police dog, according to the report. Two deputies sustained minor injuries, and two patrol vehicles were damaged.
