INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Police Department has released body and dash camera footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting from September, FOX 59 reported.
Officers were called to the scene of a robbery at a Dollar General store as a part of a serial robbery investigation, according to the report.
The video opens with dash camera footage as officers pursued the suspect vehicle. A grappler device is lowered from the front of the cruiser.
Officers in the crusier can then be heard saying that the car’s passenger, now identified as Riktez Williams, 27, was “doing something,” moments before a suspect holds a handgun out the window and fires multiple shots at officers.
At the same time, the cruiser makes contact with the suspect vehicle, which loses control. After spinning, the vehicle stops pointing away from the flow of traffic. The suspect vehicle can be seen starting to drive away from the scene, but a tether attached to the wheel by the cruiser’s grappler device holds it in place.
Many shots are fired between the vehicles, before Williams and the driver, Eriana Morris, fled from the vehicle. Multiple officers fired at the suspects as they fled on foot.
Both suspects fell to the ground, and officers started to apply medical treatment. Both Morris and Williams were transported to the hospital, where Williams died from his injuries, according to the report. No officers were injured in the incident.
The incident is still being investigated by the Use of Force Review Board.
