DALLAS — The Dallas Police Department released dashcam footage from a fatal shooting of a suspect accused of killing one officer and injuring two others in an ambush, NBCDFW reported.
The current scoring showed recruits passing the Test of Adult Basic Education 79% of the time; with the updated requirements, the passing rate would decrease to 41%

The shooting occurred Aug. 29 after officers pursued a man suspected in the shooting. Dash camera footage from the incident shows the suspect’s vehicle stopped on a freeway, with officers positioned behind cruisers.
Video released Sept. 2 shows the suspect initially exiting the vehicle with both hands raised and walking toward officers. However, the suspect can be seen turning around and walking back toward the vehicle moments later.
The suspect can be seen retrieving a firearm from the vehicle and walking toward officers again. Officers repeatedly instructed the suspect to drop the weapon. Multiple officers fired shots, striking the man after he continued to approach them with the weapon.
The suspect’s attack, which killed Officer Darron Burks, was a premeditated ambush, CBS news reported.
“Officer Burks was executed,” Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia stated. “… Our officers were targeted for nothing more than the uniform they wear and for the brave and honorable job that they do.”
A distress call following the attack was made just after 10 p.m. on Aug. 29, leading to the discovery of Burks, who had been shot in his patrol vehicle, according to the report. The responding officers were subsequently attacked by the suspect, leaving one with minor injuries and another shot in the face. Both are expected to survive.
Burks, who was 46, had recently joined the police force after a 17-year career as a math teacher, according to the report.
“Dallas has lost a hero,” Mayor Eric Johnson stated. “This is devastating. In Dallas, we put public safety first… And this attack on three of our protectors is nothing short of an attack on our city, our families, and our way of life.”
