PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer is being praised for his quick response after diving into a pool to rescue a man trapped in a submerged vehicle, KFOX 14 reported.
Bystanders had called 911 after witnessing the car drive into the water, according to the report. Body camera footage captured the officer leaping into action, smashing the vehicle’s sunroof and pulling the driver to safety.
The driver, who told police he accidentally pressed the gas pedal too hard, was the only occupant in the car, according to the report. He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
The Phoenix Police Department commended the officer’s bravery, saying his swift actions saved the man’s life.
