The Worcester Red Sox dropped their third straight game to the Scranton RailRiders on Thursday, falling 4-2 in their six-game series at PNC Field.
The WooSox managed six hits and committed one error, with Vaughn Grissom leading the offense by going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Worcester (41-36) struck first in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead when Kristian Campbell—who made his first base debut just the day before—scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Grissom. Campbell had singled earlier in the inning, followed by walks from Jhostynxon Garcia and Blaze Jordan to load the bases.
However, Scranton (41-34) quickly responded in the bottom half of the inning. Bryan De La Cruz launched a two-run homer to right field to give the RailRiders a 2-1 lead.
The RailRiders extended their advantage in the third inning when CJ Alexander singled, driving in De La Cruz and Ismael Munguia and pushing the score to 4-1.
Worcester added one more run in the top of the eighth on a two-out single from Grissom, scoring Campbell from second base.
Zach Messinger earned the win for Scranton, tossing 2.1 innings and allowing two hits while striking out three, posting a 5.48 ERA. Worcester’s Harrison took the loss, giving up eight hits, four runs, and one home run over four innings, while striking out four and finishing with a 9.00 ERA.
The WooSox and RailRiders will continue the series on Friday at 6:35 p.m.
