Unwind from a day of ‘skiing’ at this Après-themed rooftop bar in Boston

Want to unwind from a day of skiing without the extra work of taking off your gear? Well, you don’t have to travel outside Boston to get the full Après experience.

Deck 12, located on the 12th floor of YOTEL Boston in the Seaport neighborhood, has transformed into “Après… @ Deck 12″ — a ski-inspired winter rooftop — for the second year in a row.

YOTEL Boston’s food and beverage director Jayson Goldstein told MassLive on Tuesday that the success from the bar’s inaugural year stirred a ton of excitement in the Seaport neighborhood.

“It gave people the sense of that feeling of being out on the slopes all day and having to drink without having to exert themselves all day on the slopes,” he said. “There’re some great patios here in the city. Everybody kind of does their own thing and this was a little bit different, and people really enjoyed it.”

As an avid skier himself, Goldstein said the inspiration behind the bar was that feeling of relaxing after spending a day on the slopes. He wanted to revive people’s childhood memories of skiing without having them head to the Seaport instead of the hills.

“The best part of the day after I go skiing is having a drink afterwards,” Goldstein said. “[There’s] nothing better than sitting down, unstrapping your boots, getting a cocktail, reminiscing of the day and just kind of absorbing the atmosphere.”

What sets Deck12 apart from other rooftop bars in Boston is their aesthetic, views and food, according to Goldstein: the 50-person space features an indoor/outdoor bar complete with ski-themed seating.

Guests can take in panoramic views of Boston’s skyline and the Boston Harbor while chatting in a gondola, swinging on a chairlift or relaxing in an Adirondack chair.

This year’s Après-themed menu features a range of festive food and cocktails from Swiss chocolate fondue and southern-fried peanut butter and fluff to adult hot chocolate made with house-infused vanilla vodka, Bailey’s Irish Cream and espresso topped with toasted marshmallows.

“I think we just offer a great product. Our food and our cocktails, especially our service, is superior,” Goldstein said. “It’s not technically a bar atmosphere, which we do a great bar business. But if you want to have a little bit more of a relaxing time and have some great food and drinks, I think that’s what differentiates [us] the most.”

Deck 12 is open for dinner Monday through Thursday from 5-10:30 p.m., Friday from 5-11:30p.m. and Sunday 5-10:30 p.m. The restaurant serves brunch from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Goldstein said they’re also hoping to host a Super Bowl party among other seasonal festival.

While anyone can walk onto the rooftop if space allows, reservations are encouraged but not required. Reservations can be made on OpenTable or by calling Deck12 at (617) 377-4747. More information can be found at Deck12bos.com.
