UMass women’s basketball drops Atlantic 10 opener to VCU

UMass women’s basketball fell to VCU in its Atlantic 10 opener 65-45 on the road at the Siegel Center Saturday afternoon.

UMass drops to 2-11 on the season and have yet to win a road game. The Minutewomen trailed by just one after the first quarter and by only six at halftime. But they shot just 31% in the second half and only scored 18 points to VCU’s 32 as the Rams cruised to the victory.

Stefanie Kulesza, Kristin Williams and Tori Hyduke all scored 8 points to lead the Minutewomen. Kulesza led UMass with six rebounds and Alexsia Rose led the team with five assists.

VCU had four players in double figures and doubled UMass in points in the paint 32-16.

UMass returns to the Mullins Center on Jan. 2 for its Atlantic 10 home opener against Dayton at 5 p.m.
