No. 11 UMass men’s hockey fell to Clarkson 5-4 in overtime in the consolation game of the Adirondack Winter Invitational.
Clarkson’s Ryan Taylor finished his own rebound on a 2-on-1 break with just 2:21 remaining in overtime to give the Golden Knights the win and drop the Minutemen to 11-5-2.
For the second straight day, UMass scored in the third period to force overtime, but lost. Last night, UMass lost to No. 17 Cornell 2-2 (0-2 shootout) after tying the game with an empty net in the final two minutes of regulation.
Michael Cameron started the scoring off for UMass in the first five minutes. Clarkson answered in the final minutes of the first before UMass jumped ahead 3-1 in the second period on a goal from Kenny Connors and a power-play goal from Cole O’Hara, his first in over two months.
Clarkson responded with a power play goal of its own and then tied the game 3-3 with a minute and a half remaining in the second frame. The Golden Knights got their first lead of the game on a shorthanded goal just 42 seconds into the third period, but Linden Alger tied it 4-4 11 minutes later.
